The Tape Files were recorded using a full tape-centric signal chain: Tascam 234, Tascam 48, Shure M267, Marantz PMD222, Rexer tape echo, Lafayette Echo Verb, and a Pultec EQ clone. 

These sounds weren’t just passed through analog—they were inspired by it.

Who's behind The Tape Files?

I’m Tahina Rabetsimba — a drummer, producer, and sound designer focused on crafting sounds that feel lived-in and soulful.

Over the years, I’ve been recording drums using real analog gear: reel-to-reel machines, cassette decks, tape echoes, vintage EQs, and more. Not for the aesthetic — but for the feel they bring. Every drum break, one-shot, and chop is shaped by hand with intention.

 

My goal is to give producers and musicians tools that don’t just sound good, but spark ideas. 

Whether you're layering drums or flipping samples, I want these sounds to help you create something real.

Why It’s Different!

Frequently asked questions

What makes these drums different from other kits?

These breaks were tracked through my analog recording chain — mics, vintage EQs, and multiple tape machines. You’re not getting sterile loops or stock sounds. You’re getting real performances, human feel, alternate mixes, and raw stems, all with that warm, character-rich tone built for sample-based production.

How were these recorded?

Every sound in The Tape Files Vol.1 was tracked live in my home studio using a chain of analog gear and tape-based processing. Here's the signal path:

  • Drums were mic’d with a Shure SM57 on snare and a mono ribbon overhead setup and crotch mic for natural tone.
  • Kick ran through a Klark Teknik EQP-KT (a Pultec-style tube EQ) to add warmth and low-end punch.
  • From there, the signal was recorded into my Tascam 48 reel-to-reel tape machine for natural saturation, compression, and character.
  • After tape, everything was bounced back into my DAW, cleaned up, and organized into ready-to-use breaks, one-shots, and stems.

Are these sounds royalty-free, like everything?

You'll never have to pay anything out of pocket AFTER the purchase and download of a pack. One-shot drum sounds never have any placement royalties attached to them, and I NEVER require a split of beat sales on any platform. The only time royalties are applicable is for:

  1. Major Label Placements,
  2. Large Indie Placements above 1 million streams, or
  3. Large Sync Placements containing one of my drum breaks, fills or melodic loops.

In that event, I'll just need a small amount of publishing on the release and all %'s are negotiable. I'll never  hold your songs hostage or demand money upfront.
